The Range opens new Gloucester Store
With 65,000 products on its shelves, bosses at The Range are hoping their new store in Gloucester will be a popular draw.
The new store on Eastern Avenue replaces the former What! store and, before that, Focus DIY store, and it comes into direct competition with the neighbouring B&M Bargains store.
Set across 45,000 sq ft, the chain of stores is quickly expanding across the country - it has around 100 stores and another 25 are expected to open this year.
It was set up by Chris Dawson as a market stall. He is now a self-made millionaire who flies around in a helicopter. Mr Dawson is expected to visit the Gloucester in the coming weeks to check out his latest store.
Some 80 full time and part time jobs have been created at the store which opens on Friday at 9am.
Store manager Dave Jones said: "I am very excited about the opening. It will offer something different for Gloucester and I think it will be a real destination store.
"The customers will be blown away when they walk in."
Project manager Mark Gosling added: "I like to think of The Range as the working man's John Lewis. We stock many of the same products, only cheaper."
