The Home Depot Strengthens Savannah Presence With DC Purchase

Today [29 January], The Home Depot has announced the acquisition of its 1.4 million-square-foot Savannah Distribution Center (DC) and more than 100 acres of adjacent land from the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA). The Savannah DC supports hundreds of Home Depot stores with products as well as critical hurricane relief during times of disaster. The distribution center typically employs around 250 associates.

The Savannah area has been a cornerstone of The Home Depot’s supply chain operation for three decades due, in part, to the proximity to the port. Over the last 10 years, and with the Savannah River deepening project, seven and a half times more containers now pass through the port.

“This purchase is a testament to the incredible partnerships we’ve built here over the past three decades,” said Heather Tenney, VP of Distribution at The Home Depot. “Savannah’s thriving economic environment and its vital role in our supply chain make this investment a natural progression in our commitment to the community. Our partnership with the Georgia Ports Authority is a critical part of ensuring we can deliver products to our customers quickly and efficiently.”

This investment underscores the company’s long-standing commitment to the Savannah region, the state of Georgia, and its critical role in The Home Depot’s supply chain operations. Additionally, the acquisition ensures The Home Depot’s long-term presence in the region, building on decades of collaboration with the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) and the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA).

“On January 23rd, the SEDA Board of Directors approved staff to move forward in the process to sell The Home Depot Distribution Center property to The Home Depot. The Home Depot has been a tenant and in a lease agreement with SEDA since 1995. This sale signals a significant, long-term commitment by The Home Depot to our region and the Georgia Ports Authority.  We are honored that they continue to have great confidence in the Savannah region,” said Savannah Economic Development Authority President and CEO Trip Tollison.

The purchase was approved during a public meeting on January 23, 2025, and was finalized on January 29, 2025, at The Home Depot’s Store Support Center in Atlanta. The acquisition of the distribution center and surrounding land complements The Home Depot’s broader supply chain operation, with thousands of containers coming through the Port of Savannah each year. Of that, many go directly to the company’s Savannah DC, which stocks disaster relief supplies and seasonal goods for much of the Southeast.
