Tesco ditching Clubcard Boost to focus on EDLP
It has been reported that the Tesco Clubcard Boost scheme – which allows Clubcard holders to double their Clubcard vouchers at specific times throughout the year – is to be scrapped to allow the supermarket chain to offer customers ‘better value all year round’, as well as narrowing its price differential to discounters Aldi and Lidl.
The Clubcard scheme awards customers with one point for every pound they spend. Each point is worth 1p and customers receive vouchers every three months, as long as they have a minimum of 150 points.
The last Clubcard Boost is to commence on May 16, and will run until June 26. Customers will be able to exchange £5 worth of Clubcard vouchers for a £10 boost voucher, which can then be spent in selected departments, both in-store and online.
Tesco is to send a letter to 4.2 million shoppers this week advising that it is working on other ways to enhance its Clubcard loyalty scheme and doing more to help shoppers boost their points balance more quickly, like offering more ways to earn double points.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re improving Tesco Clubcard to make it simpler, straightforward and more appealing for our customers.
“This will be our last Boost event but in the coming months we’ll have more exciting news to share about how Tesco Clubcard will offer customers even better value all year round.”
