Summer Decking Trends Revealed
- Homeowners are going bigger and better when it comes to plans for their gardens this summer.
Experts at Trex - the world’s number one composite decking brand - has revealed that the average composite deck planned for this summer represents a year-on-year increase in size*, as customers look to utilise their garden as an extension of their entertainment space.
Further trends revealed by the manufacturer that invented composite decking include a surge in demand for light, coastal inspired brown shades*. The theme is reflected by an increase in popularity for its Biscayne colour – described as capturing the beauty of mangroves and sandy coasts, with its light honey hues and natural grain pattern.
Biscayne is a colour offered within Trex’s Transcend Lineage collection which has integrated heat mitigation shell technology – revealing a greater focus on keeping cool under foot as the UK experiences warmer summer days more frequently.
The outdoor living specialist’s team of TrexPro deck builders – located across the UK – are experiencing high demand for its Signature and Transcend Lineage ranges, revealing the nation is shopping for quality in 2024 when it comes to transformations of gardens and outdoor living spaces.
Lee Heitzman, Trex’s UK market manager, said: “Both our Signature and Transcend Lineage boards are new to the UK market and the look is really resonating with consumers. Signature – our most premium product – is available in two colours and takes inspiration from nature’s most beautiful locations. Whidbey is inspired by a misty island retreat, while Ocracoke is a reflection of sandy dunes and marshy shores.
“When it comes to Transcend Lineage, the Biscayne colour is trending. The natural grain pattern, combined with its colouring, gives it a look that is close to wood but with far superior durability, significantly lower maintenance needs and unrivalled sustainability – benefits of all Trex products.”
Over the course of the brand’s long history, not a single tree has been cut down to create its range of decking boards. Instead, Trex is manufactured from post-consumer and post-commercial polyethylene plastic film derived from waste plastics, such as plastic bags, and reclaimed industrial wood scrap, meaning its boards are manufactured from up to 95 per cent recycled material.
Discussing market challenges and further trends for summer 2024, Lee continued: “Despite the economic challenges facing homeowners across the country and the recent period of wet weather which could cause a slower uptake of orders, we haven’t felt a negative impact. People are considering composite decking more and more as messaging around sustainability, durability and maintenance make their mark.
“We have seen an increase in square footage per order, with outdoor space to host dinner parties or added room to sit hot tubs, saunas or ice baths coming to the fore. Wellbeing in your garden is a priority more than ever and homeowners are turning to Trex to turn their dreams into a reality.”
Trex can be ordered through a merchant or by contacting a local TrexPro deck builder. More details about Trex’s product range can be found here.
