Springboard: Footfall Continues To Strengthen
Springboard has published retail footfall data for week 32, advising of encouraging news for retail as footfall continues to strengthen at the peak of the summer holiday period, outperforming the same week in 2019.
To ensure its insights are as relevant as possible, Springboard has introduced a year-on-year 2021 vs 2019 comparison for footfall.
Retail Parks - Week 32 2021
2021 vs 2020 = +12.0%
2021 vs 2019 = -2.0%
Week-on-week = -0.5%
Diane Wehrle, Springboard's Director of Marketing and Insights, said:
"Last week was halfway through the peak summer period and footfall continued to improve from the week before; although it was high streets - rather than shopping centres or retail parks - that benefited from an increase in customer activity.
What is encouraging is that in the same week in 2019 - the pre-Covid baseline that we are now comparing footfall against - footfall declined; so, whilst the increase last week from the week before may only be a modest one, it is a significant improvement on what would be regarded as normal trading conditions two years ago.
Footfall increased in all types of high street, but the results clearly reflect holiday and leisure trips being taken during the school summer break, as the greatest uplifts were in Central London, regional cities outside London and coastal towns. However, the increase in consumer activity was not evenly spread throughout the week, as three of the four days when footfall rose were from Thursday to Saturday."
