Springboard data has shown a rise in retail footfall over the bank holiday weekend compared with Easter 2018.

The data showed a 6.5% rise on Good Friday, a 1.2% increase on Saturday and an 8.4% boost by 12pm on Easter Monday.

In contrast, poor weather during Easter 2018 resulted in a 2.4% footfall decline on Good Friday, a drop of 3% on Easter Saturday and a fall of 9.8% by 12pm on Easter Monday.

High streets saw a 19.1% and 8.8% rise in footfall on Good Friday and Easter Saturday respectively, while shopping centres saw an 11% and 11.8% decline on the same days.

Diane Wehrle, Springboard insights director, said: “Consumers clearly wanted to be outside enjoying the sun rather than visiting covered malls. Even in retail parks, where shoppers gravitate to buy garden furniture and plants, footfall declined by 2.4% on Good Friday and 1.3% on Easter Saturday from the same days last year.”
