Screwfix plans four North East store openings this year
Trade retailer Screwfix is continuing its investment in the North East, with four new store openings planned this year.
These new openings follow a successful 12 months for the company, which saw them open six new stores across the region.
The retailer’s store expansion programme has so far brought 160 new jobs to the North East and a further 20 positions are currently up for grabs with the retailer.
Barbara Walker, area manager for Screwfix in the North East said: “It’s an exciting time for Screwfix, with new stores opening and more in the pipeline. We now have 12 stores in the North East, which will increase to 16 by the end of the year.
“By opening up more stores in more areas we can give our customers the best service, value for money and greater convenience. Growing Screwfix in the North East is also great news for the local economy as we are creating new jobs as well as supporting tradesmen.”
Screwfix opened its latest North East store in Hartlepool last month – the 285th store to launch in the UK – creating 12 new jobs.
Hartlepool store manager, Michelle Hunt, said: “We’ve seen great engagement from local tradesmen popping in to see the new store.
“This is our first store in Hartlepool and it is proving a great success; creating jobs and giving tradesmen better access to all the trade essentials in one place so they are fully prepared for any job”.
The next Screwfix store to open will be Newcastle Scotswood Road on August 8.
