Rumours that Amazon is looking into furniture store concept

According to the New York Times, Amazon is exploring the concept of high tech' physical home stores, selling large items such as furniture and white goods.

Sources say that the company is planning stores where people can check out furniture and home appliances using augmented or virtual reality to help customers see how the products will actually look in their own homes.

It’s not just the furniture industry that Amazon looks set to disrupt, as the company is reportedly planning to set up electronics stores, similar to the Apple stores and it won't be the first time that Amazon have moved into the physical world, having opened five book shops and a grocery store in recent years.

However, the New York Times says “it is possible that some of the store ideas will never see the light of day”.

The company refuses to discuss any stores that it hasn’t publicly announced.
