Retail Footfall Sees Marginal Rise In Second Week Since Restrictions Were Removed
Springboard has published its latest retail footfall data, revealing that footfall increased only marginally last week due to heavy rain, but shopping centres and regional cities benefited.
High Street - Week 30 2021
2021 vs 2020: +26.7%
2021 vs 2019: -29.5%
Week on week: +0.3%
To ensure Springboard's insights are as relevant as possible the company has introduced a year-on-year 2021 vs 2019 comparison for footfall.
Diane Wehrle, Marketing and Insights Director at Springboard, said:
"The second full week of trading following the removal of restrictions delivered only a modest uplift in footfall across UK retail destinations from the week before. Footfall was clearly hampered by the rain that swept most of the UK, and this led to shoppers gravitating towards shopping centres rather than the external environments of retail parks and high streets.
"The impact of the rain was evident in a drop in footfall in coastal towns where, in previous weeks, the uplift in footfall had surpassed all other types of high street. In contrast large city centres recorded increases in activity, with a larger increase in footfall in Central London than in other city centres outside of the capital whilst in Outer London footfall declined."
