Queues Form As New Wilko Opens in Ashton-Under-Lyne
LOCAL shoppers were out in force today when wilko opened the doors to its newly relocated store at Tameside One, Ashton-under-Lyne.
Queues outside the store started forming at 8am with more than 100 shoppers keen to get a first look at the relocated wilko store.
The first 100 customers received a goody bag containing essential summer products including BBQ tongs and sun cream, as well as some delicious sweets. Shoppers on the day also enjoyed complementary cupcakes.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by Ashton-under-Lyne Branch Manager, Sam Kavanagh, Councillor Brenda Warrington, wilko Head of Retail, Craig McGregor, long-standing team members; Janet Cockrane and Christine Whitefield and Sally Backhouse, a representative of Alzheimer’s Society, who attended on behalf of the wilko Charity Partnership. The wilko Charity Partnership supports Save the Children, Alzheimer’s Society and Teenage Cancer Trust.
Wilko Ashton-under-Lyne Branch Manager, Sam Kavanagh, presented the charity partnership with a £600 cheque for all three charities.
Sam commented: “We had a fantastic turnout for the launch event, which is a very positive start to our residence here at Tameside One. We can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store."
Founded in 1930 by JK Wilkinson the company was created to deliver his vision of providing customers with a huge choice of product at the best possible price combined with top customer service.
