LOCAL shoppers were out in force today when wilko opened the doors to its newly relocated store at Tameside One, Ashton-under-Lyne.

Queues outside the store started forming at 8am with more than 100 shoppers keen to get a first look at the relocated wilko store.

The first 100 customers received a goody bag containing essential summer products including BBQ tongs and sun cream, as well as some delicious sweets. Shoppers on the day also enjoyed complementary cupcakes.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by Ashton-under-Lyne Branch Manager, Sam Kavanagh, Councillor Brenda Warrington, wilko Head of Retail, Craig McGregor, long-standing team members; Janet Cockrane and Christine Whitefield and Sally Backhouse, a representative of Alzheimer’s Society, who attended on behalf of the wilko Charity Partnership. Wilko Ashton-under-Lyne Branch Manager, Sam Kavanagh, presented the charity partnership with a £600 cheque for all three charities.

Sam commented: “We had a fantastic turnout for the launch event, which is a very positive start to our residence here at Tameside One. We can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store."
