Local shoppers were out in force today when wilko opened its doors at The Putney Exchange Shopping Centre.

Queues outside the new store started forming at 8am with more than 150 shoppers keen to get a first look at the new wilko store.

The first 100 customers received a goody bag, containing essential products for the garden, as well as some delicious Easter chocolates. Whilst shoppers on the day also enjoyed free cupcakes and the opportunity to take away a caricature portrait by speed sketcher, Picasso Griffiths.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by Retail Director, Craig McGregor, wilko Putney Branch Manager, Lauren Hewitt and Caroline Western Goodman, a representative of Teenage Cancer Trust, who attended on behalf of the wilko Charity Partnership. The Wilko Charity Partnership supports Save the Children, Alzheimer’s Society and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Wilko Putney Branch Manager, Lauren Hewitt, presented the charity partnership with a £600 cheque for all three charities.

Wilko Putney Branch Manager, Lauren Hewitt said: “We had a fantastic turnout for the launch event, which was a very positive start to our residence here at The Putney Exchange. We can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store.”

Founded in 1930 by JK Wilkinson the company was created to deliver his vision of providing customers with a huge choice of product at the best possible price combined with top customer service.
