Poundland To Open New Store And Reopen Another This Weekend
Poundland is putting the finishing touches to its new Poundland Local store in Whitechapel, London, creating 25 new jobs and bringing customers more choice and amazing value to help household budgets go further.
The new store at 75 Whitechapel Road, London E1, on the site of a former HSBC bank, opens on Saturday 1 October at 9am.
In between Whitechapel and Aldgate East underground stations, it is part of the vibrant East End and close to the City of London financial district,
It is the latest Poundland Local store in a pilot scheme to bring convenience shopping to neighbourhoods not currently served by Poundland. It will employ around 25 full and part-time colleagues.
At 2,250 square feet, it is smaller than a typical Poundland store and has been designed to offer a carefully tailored range of products for customers who live or work in the area, whether they are commuting, on a lunch break, doing a top-up shop, making a regular purchase or buying last minute essentials. Opening times will be longer than a typical Poundland for maximum convenience.
The new store will offer everyday items from Poundland’s core range including groceries, snacks, drinks, household products, health and beauty and batteries.
Customers will also find items they would expect in a convenience store such as fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and morning goods, hot pies and pastries, beers, wines and spirits and vaping products.
It will also be one of the growing number of Poundland stores – set to reach around 350 this autumn – to offer chilled and frozen food.
Poundland director of retail, Darren Kay, said: “Our new Poundland Local is close to the heart of Whitechapel, a vibrant part of the East End of London and one of its busiest shopping districts and convenient for commuters into the financial district.
“The store has been designed to offer shoppers everything they would expect in a neighbourhood convenience store and at Poundland’s amazing value which is more important than ever when household budgets are under so much pressure.”
With its focus on convenience for locals, the new Poundland Local in Whitechapel will complement the existing regular Poundland stores in East London including Hoxton, Bow, Dalston, Leyton, East Ham and Forest Gate.
The Poundland Local trial started in May 2021 and the latest to open in London was Clapham Junction on 1 July. London is seen as a key target area as Poundland actively looks for other suitable locations for Local format stores.
Poundland to reopen revamped Plumstead store following fire
Poundland is putting the finishing touches to work on the revamp of its Plumstead store in South East London which is due to reopen next month after it was damaged in a fire in April.
The store, at 148-154 High Street, Plumstead, opens on Saturday 1 October at 9am after undergoing extensive refurbishment which means customers can buy more of what they need in a single trip. It will include a wider range of PEP&CO clothing and homewares and chilled and frozen food.
The store was temporarily closed following the fire which fortunately did not lead to any injuries.
It will employ around 18 full and part-time colleagues and is recruiting staff for its enlarged PEP&CO clothing section
It will reopen with the full range of essentials and groceries that customers have come to expect, including drinks and snacks that shoppers love, as well as revamped health and beauty, entertainment, stationery and craft ranges, so customers can do more of their shopping in one trip.
The new store will also feature a wide range of Poundland’s PEP&CO clothing for the whole family. As well as womenswear, menswear and kidswear, it will also have a section dedicated to PEP&CO homewares such as the latest 2022 ranges including kitchen storage options, faux plants, bathroom accessories and soft furnishings.
It will also be one of the growing number of Poundland stores – set to reach around 350 this autumn – to offer chilled and frozen food.
Poundland’s director of retail, Darren Kay, said: “We’re looking forward to reopening our doors at Plumstead High Street and welcoming back our loyal customers after a six months separation.
