Poundland launches online shopping service

Poundland online shop

Poundland has launched an online shop selling items at a fixed price of £1 - but delivery costs £4 unless you spend over £50.

The discount retailer is trialling a delivery service offering customers more than 2,000 products. All items will be sold at a fixed price of £1 and there is no minimum order value.

However, shoppers will have to pay a £4 delivery charge unless the order is over £50 when it will be delivered for free.

As well as items from Poundland’s own-brand lines, including Tommy Walsh’s DIY range and Jane Asher bakeware, it sells thousands of branded products, including Cadbury’s, Heinz and Coca-Cola.

Its online shop has 17 categories including food and drink, health and beauty, household, gardening, DIY, Pet, Stationery, Books, DVDs and Toys.

Jim McCarthy, CEO, said: ‘We’re very pleased to have launched online.

'Our online channel will make shopping even easier, it’s convenient and caters for shoppers who may not yet have a Poundland nearby, but who still want to benefit from the amazing value and remarkable treasure trove of lines we offer.’

The website is available on desktop, tablet and mobile and deliveries are available to UK residents only.

The retailer also revealed it is planning to launch a click and collect trial service early next year.

The announcement came after Poundland's £55m takeover of its rival 99p Stores was provisionally cleared by the UK's competition watchdog after an in-depth probe into the deal.

Poundland was founded in 1990 and has over 600 shops in the UK and Ireland, after adding 60 stores last year.
