Poundland hammers home value with new celebrity DIY range
As over two thirds (78 per cent)* of Brits took out their tool box last year to complete home chores, there’s no doubt that DIY is still the first port of call when something needs fixing.
That’s why celebrity builder and renowned DIY expert, Tommy Walsh has today revealed his new exclusive DIY range with Poundland, the nation’s favourite discount retailer which announced its intention to acquire rival retailer 99p Stores last month.
The ‘DIY:time’ range has been launched to let the nation know it’s time to save on DIY and will appear in Poundland stores nationwide from 27 April, just in time for the May bank holiday.
Expected best sellers of the 200-strong range include the three piece professional paint brush set, 7.5m tape measure and 20g tube of superglue, as well as a 60cm spirit level, paint rollers and trays, masking tape, re-enforced tape, five pack of screwdrivers and the 330g all-purpose filler and mastic tubes. These will all be available at Poundland’s famous £1 price point, in stark contrast to competitor products ranging from five to ten times the price.
The range will also include some surprising products including a fantastic selection of decorating tools and accessories, standard hand tools and a selection of miniature products including a mini turbo cutter and mini computer screwdrivers which are all very handy to own.
“The cost of calling out a tradesman or even buying tools for small home improvements can mount up quickly,” explains Tommy. “DIY should be accessible and affordable for everyone, which is why I have partnered with Poundland to develop this high quality range which offers amazing value at just £1 per item, allowing customers to fill their toolbox with all the essentials they need for as little as £10.”
Tommy continues, “I’ve been closely involved in the selection and development process of the ‘DIY:time’ range since day one. I’m so pleased with the results and am proud to put my name to it, now I’m looking forward to hearing what the customers have to say!”
The range, as tested and developed by Tommy himself, has been split into four colour coded categories in order to differentiate each category in the range and help the customers to find the products they need with ease. The categories are: ‘Decorating Essentials’ in red, ‘Adhesives’ in blue, ‘Toolbox Essentials’ in yellow and ‘Fixtures and Fittings’ in orange.
Furthermore, each pack will provide tips from Tommy Walsh on how to carry out its corresponding DIY task to help turn Britain into a nation of budding DIY masters.
CEO of Poundland, Jim McCarthy, said: “Purchasing DIY products can be very expensive. We believe we have identified a gap in the market and can challenge other retailers with our more affordable DIY products. Tommy’s ‘DIY:time’ range offers outstanding value for money and will make home improvement accessible for everyone no matter what their budget”
‘DIY:time’ is the second celebrity collaboration from the retailer, following Poundland’s best-selling Jane Asher bakeware range which has more than doubled predicted sales figures.
McCarthy continues, “We’re confident this range will be a success. It’s another prime example of Poundland delivering quality products to millions of customers for our £1 price point, which delivers amazing value every day, every month, every year.”
