- Pepco Group opens its first Pepco stores in Portugal, following success in Spain
- Majority of new Pepco stores in Portugal will combine the best of the Group’s clothing, FMCG and GM ranges
- The Group now operates in 20 territories across Europe, with Pepco having stores in 18 countries
Pepco Group, the fast-growing pan-European variety discount retailer, and owner of the Pepco and Dealz brands across Europe and Poundland in the UK, today announces the opening of its first Pepco store in Portugal, marking the latest milestone in the Group’s profitable European store expansion.
The new Pepco store in Coimbra, which opens on 18 May, will be followed by new openings in Albufeira and Olhão during May 2023. Further launches are planned in a variety of cities across Portugal over the course of the year, including in Lisbon, Porto, Elvas, Tavira, Averio, and Braga.
The majority of Pepco’s new stores in Portugal will offer the full range of Pepco’s popular men’s, women’s and children’s clothing; general merchandise from homewares to toys; and FMCG from Poundland Group, including toiletries, cleaning and laundry, personal care, confectionery, and pet categories at market-leading prices.
The enlarged product offering in Portugal follows a successful trial across Pepco stores in Spain, as part of the Group’s strategic focus to be a bigger, better, cheaper and simpler business.
Trevor Masters, CEO of Pepco Group, said: “Our launch in Portugal marks another important step in the Group’s profitable store expansion programme – our biggest source of value creation – and further validates our belief the whole of Europe is addressable to us. Following the successful introduction of Pepco’s three-category format in Spain, we are confident that customers in Portugal will be attracted to the unbeatable value of our combined clothing, general merchandise and FMCG offer.”
The opening of Pepco’s first store in Portugal represents the latest phase of the Group’s expansion in Western Europe, including entering Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece in recent years. In April, Pepco opened its 100th store in Italy, reflecting how customers have responded positively to its offer there. Elsewhere, the Group’s plans remain on track to launch the Pepco brand in Bosnia and Herzegovina later this year.
Pecpo Group plans to open at least 550 net new stores in FY23, primarily through the Pepco brand, while also expanding the presence of its Dealz brand in Poland. This will see the Group create thousands of net new jobs across Europe, while ensuring more customers across Euope have access to its popular and diversified offer.
