Nicholas Marshall confirms interest in Homebase
In an interview with trade publication Horticulture Week, Nicholas Marshall, former CEO of Wyevale, has confirmed he is interested in taking on the Homebase business and he expects it to come up for sale in the coming year.
"There's no doubt about it, I'm interested in it," he told the publication.
"I'm interested in the space and you can imagine with my background what I would keep in that space. Wyevale was on the floor and I turned it around, and I've no doubt I can do that again with Homebase with a formula somewhat similar to the one I used for Wyevale - garden centres, restaurants and concessions. It has a similar space."
It has been reported that Homebase has attracted the interest of several parties including South Africa’s Steinhoff, which has a strong background in home improvement retailing and owns the Harveys and Bensons for Beds brands in the UK. France’s Leroy Merlin, part of the ADEO Group, has also been linked to a possible deal.
