New Mitre 10 MEGA Store Opens In Wanaka
Mitre 10 has opened a brand new MEGA store in Wanaka, in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand.
The new store is located on Sir Tim Wallis Drive in the town, and opened on Saturday November 21st, in time to benefit from Christmas and New Year trading.
Calder Stewart worked on the build, which is thought to be the largest retail building in Wanaka, at 9,000m2. Overall, the site is 2.8ha and has more than 200 car parking spaces.
The store was built with sustainability and the environment in mind and innovative materials were used to help achieve this:
- Cross laminated timber (CLT) beams act as long term carbon storage.
- Carefully chosen materials and design combine to deliver a very high seismic rating.
- Smart auto-opening windows and evaporative cooling units provide energy-efficient ventilation.
- LED smart lighting technology reduces electricity usage.
- A 900m2 100kva photovoltaic array helps power the store and EV charging stations.
- There are two electric vehicle charging stations located on site.
Marks Watson is the manager of the store, which is open from 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, and 8:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
