New Asda app encourages online shopping and delivery
Busy shoppers will be able to use a UK delivery service to have their groceries delivered to their door by ordering goods on their smartphones, after retail giant Asda announced the rolling out of its first transactional mobile app.
It follows the launch of a mobile-optimised site in August of this year and will initially only be available for iPhone customers. It will also allow customers to compare product prices with those in other supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Tesco.
"More than 60 per cent of customers who access the Asda mobile website do so using iPhones, so we've created an app that allows them to shop on the move," said Kate Cuthbertson, Asda's head of mobile strategy. “Our mobile strategy is moving at pace with more new developments planned into the New Year.”
A PayPal survey released on November 8th forecast that purchases made on mobile phones, or m-commerce, could become a £2.5 billion industry as soon as 2016. Its report found that the mobile market will grow by 42 per cent each over the next five years.
