Nectar launches biggest ever points promotion

Nectar is launching its biggest ever weekend points promotion to encourage spending amid more signs that shoppers are reining in spending because of continued uncertainty over the state of the economy.

The promotional weekend offers Nectar cardholders triple points between 29 July and 1 August at participating high street retailers including BP, Homebase and Ford.

The triple points promotion is also running across a number of Nectar’s online partners including eBay.co.uk, Dixons.co.uk, Houseoffraser.co.uk and Expedia.

Nectar, which now counts 18 million members, says the promotion has been designed to help cardholders boost their points balance and earn rewards sooner.

It comes as many shoppers are still reigning in their spending. Recent grocery sector figures show that despite gains in value sales, volumes fell 1.7% in June as shoppers bought less food.

Asda’s latest monthly income tracker also revealed that families had less discretionary income in June that in the previous year.

Nectar’s triple points promotion means for every £1 spent, shoppers will receive six points instead of two. Cardholders will receive 3 points in stead of 1 point per pound when filling up at BP forecourts and 600 points instead of 200 points when booking online with Expedia.

It will be supported by a 10 second TV ad and 30 second radio ad running from the 28 to 31 July.
