MKM Acquires Rab Corder Bathrooms

MKM have acquired Dumfries bathroom specialist, Rab Corder Bathrooms. The acquisition marks our 126^th branch nationwide.

The acquisition marks an expansion of MKM's presence in the Dumfries region, with Rab Corder Bathrooms becoming ‘MKM Dumfries St Mary’s’ with full support from existing branches, MKM Dumfries and MKM Dumfries Timber, both of which originated from the acquisition of Dumfries Timber Company (DTC) Merchants Limited in 2020.

Rab Corder Bathrooms, known for its high-quality bathroom design and installation has over 14 bathroom displays and was founded by Rab Corder in Castle Douglas in September 2011. Company growth saw Mr Corder open the Dumfries showroom in September 2018. With a dedicated team, Rab Corder Bathrooms has built up a great reputation for its bathroom design and installation services, alongside plumbing and heating services.

The business will continue to provide bathroom design to the trade and public, benefiting from MKM's logistics and industry experience with the addition of new brands and free local delivery services, plus investment to enhance the existing bathroom showroom, introducing a new kitchen showroom and expanding the plumbing and heating offering in the comign months.

Former owner Rab Corder has stepped down from his position as CEO with immediate effect, but all other employees remain with the business as it transitions to MKM Dumfries St Mary’s. The acquisition and expansion of the plumbing and heating services will create three new full-time jobs in the next two months. 

An experienced plumbing and heating specialist who joins the team next month will work alongside Graeme Thomson and Graeme McWhir, Branch Directors of MKM Dumfries which is situated just minutes from the new showroom.

Andrew Popple, MKM's Business Operations Director, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, saying, 

"Rab has built an outstanding reputation in Dumfries, approaching MKM in 2023 about a potential acquisition due to retirement. We are delighted to retain the whole team. This acquisition is a fantastic opportunity for MKM to further strengthen our presence in Scotland, enhancing our services with the capabilities of Rab Corder Bathrooms."

Rab Corder, who is stepping down to enjoy retirement, commented on the acquisition,

"It’s a bittersweet day as I officially step down from a business I’ve built over two plus decades, I’d like to say thank you to all my customers and the team. I have always admired MKM’s commitment to supporting the local community as well as the company’s dedication to stocking the best range of products and employing the best people. My wife Vicky remains with the business, and I look forward to seeing how the team expand our current services and grow it into something very special for the area.”
