Mayor opens new B&Q Store
MALVERN mayor Ian Hopwood officially opened the new B&Q do-it-yourself store in Spring Lane, Malvern Link, this morning (Thursday, August 11).
The store was formerly Focus DIY, which closed earlier this year when the firm went into administration.
The new owners have re-employed all 27 staff from Focus, as well as creating 21 new jobs.
Manager Mo Meah said: “The team, existing and new, are excited about the store opening and serving the local community. We’ve had a few weeks to get to know each other and we’re really looking forward to meeting all our new customers.
“The new team spans several generations and although they may be different in age, they’ve got one thing in common – they’re passionate about DIY and want to help make it easier for all our customers.”
The Co-op in Edith Walk closed its doors at 3pm on Tuesday, August 9.
According to a statement issued by the Co-op that day, of the 28 staff employed there, six opted to remain with Co-op, transferring to other branches in Malvern and Worcester, 20 have been made redundant, and two were described as 'unsure'.
The premises is due to be taken over by home-and-garden retail chain Wilkinson.
