Massmart reports on half-year trading
South African retail giant Massmart has reported on half-year trading for the 26 weeks ended 26th June 2016.
The Group saw sales rise by 8.7% to 42.31bn rand and reported a 19% rise in half-year profit.
Massmart said that the lack of growth in the South African economy has meant that its shoppers had maintained spending on food and non-durables but delayed purchases of appliances.
The Group intends to open five new stores across Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria and Zambia in the next two years.
