Massmart And OneCart To Expand Partnership
The South African retail group Massmart and the on-demand delivery provider OneCart have confirmed they are to expand their partnership, with the aim of doubling the number of the Massmart stores within the app by the end of the year.
Founded in 2018, OneCart is a fast-moving consumer goods marketplace and logistics platform which partners with leading retailers in South Africa to enable fast, flexible and efficient online sales and home delivery to consumers across the country. Massmart acquired an 87.5% stake in OneCart in October 2021.
Customers can order from multiple different stores and a OneCart concierge will select the items. A verified OneCart delivery partner then brings the purchases to the customer's doorstep at their chosen time.
OneCart is currently understood to offer customers the ability to shop at 28 Game stores and 12 Makro branches. Carnival, Makro Crown Mines and Wonderboom stores will be added to the app this month and a selection of Builders stores will be added in July.
Lynton Peters, Founder and CEO of OneCart, told Retail Brief Africa: "We are really pleased to be able to leverage OneCart for mutual benefit at Massmart through this expansion, given the high priority that Massmart has placed on on-demand eCommerce at Game, Makro and Builders,”
“Not only does the platform act as an alternative customer channel for some of the country’s most established brands, it is also the first direct-to-consumer channel for smaller, emerging retailers and SME’s entering the online market.
“OneCart’s business model is becoming increasingly relevant for both retailers and consumers as convenience and time become new currencies. As retailers seek new growth opportunities and access to new customers, a fast, low-cost online presence is invaluable.
“A typical OneCart order could easily involve a diverse product selection that includes your weekly or monthly groceries, a case of wine or beer, a new drill for that spontaneous DIY project, beauty products, and nappies and baby food.”
