Lord Harris to retire as Carpetright chairman

Carpetright chairman Lord Harris is to retire at the end of the month with the floorcoverings chain announcing a new non-executive chairman.

The retailer today named Bob Ivell to the role with effect from 1st November. Mr Ivell is currently non-executive chairman at Mitchells & Butlers and a senior independent director at Britvic and Aga Rangemaster.

He was formerly chairman at David Lloyd Leisure and Park Resorts Group among others, while his executive career took in major posts in the food and beverage industry with Regents Inns, Scottish & Newcastle and Whitbread.

Lord Harris said: "I am delighted we have found a very able and experienced chairman who brings tremendous skills and experience from his previous executive and non-executive roles. After 57 years in the carpet business, it is time for me to focus on my other interests and I retire from the board confident that I leave behind a strong leadership team."
