Lidl reveals 'Social Price Drop' initiative

Lidl - Social Price Drop 725 x 500

Lidl has launched a new social media initiative called the 'Social Price Drop' which allows its customers to influence its prices via Twitter.

Customers are being encouraged to tweet using the hashtag #LidlSurprises, in a bid to reduce the cost of a specific item.  The more tweets Lidl receives during a set time period, the lower the price of the item, which will be available for purchase in stores at the discounted price on the following Saturday.

The Lidl Social Price Drop runs for four weeks, from Monday 21st November to Saturday 17th December.  The first item in the Social Price Drop is lobster, with a tweet 'window' of 8am on Monday 21st to 6pm on Tuesday 22nd November.  The result of the price drop will be announced by 12pm on Wednesday 23rd November and the lobster will be available for purchase on Saturday 26th October.

A new product will be announced each Monday.

Georgina Hall, Lidl UK's Head of Communications, said: “The Social Price Drop is a first for any supermarket in the UK, and we’re incredibly excited about giving our customers the power on Twitter to lower the price of some of our finest festive products,”

“Christmas is a very expensive time of year for shoppers up and down the country and as a retailer at the heart of Britain’s communities, our ambition is to put the control back into the hands of consumers and save them even more in the run up to Christmas.”
