  • The new office will support Lidl's ambitions to open 1,100 stores across Great Britain by the end of 2025

Lidl GB has opened its new British Headquarters in Tolworth. After three years of construction, the supermarket chain has opened the new state-of-the-art 250,000 square ft building, which has been designed to accommodate its 800-strong head office team, with further room to grow.

Named ‘Lidl House’ by colleagues following an internal survey, the new headquarters will bring teams from across the business together under one roof, to help drive the support for Lidl’s network of 900 stores, 13 warehouses and 26,000 colleagues across Great Britain.

The bespoke building, which spans five floors, has also been built with a number of innovative measures to reduce its impact on the environment. This includes the largest number of electric car charging points in one location in the UK, and solar panels on the car park to provide 300kW of energy per hour. Inside the HQ, all of the toilets in the building flush with rainwater and the building is fitted with automatic LED lighting.

Lidl colleagues will also benefit from a Health and Wellbeing Centre which can be accessed both in and outside of office hours with a range of exercises classes and sophisticated gym equipment, as well as an on-site barista and a canteen with a huge range of choices cooked fresh on site.

Ryan McDonnell, who starts his new role as Lidl GB CEO on 1st February, commented: “This is a significant milestone for Lidl GB, finally bringing us together under one roof as one team.

“This amazing new space is designed to really enhance collaboration, encouraging more flexible ways of working for all colleagues, with dedicated areas to suit their needs, as well as providing them with the resources they need to work as one team.

“Most importantly it’s a sign of our absolute commitment to our colleagues, our customers and our suppliers, and our desire to continue pushing forward with our rapid expansion so that we can offer even more communities the chance to access high quality food at market-leading prices”.

Colleagues at Lidl House will also be working with local charity partners to help support the Tolworth community. Partners include SHEDx, a community-led regeneration organisation, with Lidl’s donations helping to plant flowers and vegetables, and to run community creativity projects in and around Tolworth.

Lidl recently announced the opening of its 900th store in Liverpool and is on track to meet its target of opening 1,100 stores across Britain by the end of 2025, creating 4,000 new jobs through the store openings alone.
