Kingfisher’s Ray Baker recognised as a BITC ‘Game Changer’

Kingfisher is pleased to announce that Ray Baker, Director of Group Corporate Responsibility, has been presented with a one-off 'Game Changer' Award by Business in the Community (BITC). The Award recognises individuals who have made a demonstrable contribution to integrating responsible business policy and practice within their organisation.

According to BITC each Game Changer is an advocate of responsible business who, by helping to shift corporate responsibility from niche to mainstream, has played a significant part in advancing the movement.

In its citation BITC said: "Three decades ago, B&Q decided to examine the spectrum of CR issues relevant to its business. From this, Ray created a comprehensive CR programme for all of Kingfisher's operating companies, to systematically manage and encourage the progression of sustainability across the group. This effort has solidified Kingfisher's position as a global business leader for sustainability and is the foundation for its new ambition to transform the way Kingfisher operates in order to become a Net Positive business."

Ian Cheshire, Group Chief Executive of Kingfisher plc, said: "I would like to congratulate Ray on receiving this recognition which is very well deserved. His dedication to embedding CR across the Group, from head office to each of our OpCos, has helped to lay the foundations for the ambition we launched earlier this year - to become Net Positive and do more than simply aim to minimise our negative impact on the world."

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of BITC, said: "We are delighted to be able to recognise some of the brightest stars in corporate responsibility through our Game Changers award. As a campaigning membership organisation we are dependent on individuals from business to help us drive the agenda. Without the energy and passion of Game Changers like Ray I doubt very much if the UK responsible business movement would be quite so mature. They truly deserve this recognition which I hope will act as an inspiration to others."

The Game Changer Award was created in celebration of BITC's 30th anniversary year.
