JYSK Signs Contracts For New Netherlands Distribution Centre

JYSK planned Netherlands DC

JYSK has now signed contracts with two specialised companies, Körber and voestalpine, to deliver the automation and high bay warehouses for the global home furnishing retailer’s new distribution centre in Lelystad, the Netherlands.

The current forwarded distribution centre in Lelystad in the Netherlands will as planned be upgraded to a full-size, state-of-the-art distribution centre.

As an important step in the right direction, JYSK has now signed contracts with two specialised companies to deliver the automation and steel construction for the new distribution centre.

WhileKörber will deliver the entire material handling system, voestalpine Krems Finaltechnik GmbHwill be in charge of delivering the steel construction for the 2 large high bay warehouses.

“We paused the construction plans in March 2022 due to increased prices on raw materials and services as a result of the uncertainties in the world. Now we are happy to be one step closer to starting the construction, which will reduce the driving distance to JYSK stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and thereby bring us closer to our customers,” says Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics at JYSK.

In addition to the benefits in distribution, the new, high-tech distribution centre will be highly automated, which will ensure great efficiency and further improve the working environment for JYSK’s employees. Currently, 57 employees work in the forwarded distribution centre, and the logistics hub will create more than 250 new jobs, once it is fully operational.

JYSK expects construction to begin during 2024, and the new distribution centre is expected to be built and start operational during 2026.

The new distribution centre in Lelystad will include:

  • 2 high bays with 166,000 pallet locations, operated by 21 cranes
  • Modules for ergonomic and efficient picking and packing of online orders
  • Robot layer picking and automated downstream tray loading system
