JYSK Selects Experienced Contractor For New DC
JYSK has chosen Willy Naessens Netherlands as contractor for the global home furnishing chain’s new distribution centre in the Netherlands. The family-owned construction company, originally founded in Belgium, will manage the complete construction, which will be certified according to the international sustainability standard LEED.
JYSK’s new, highly automated distribution centre, which will span 147,000 square metres in Lelystad, will be built by the experienced contractor Willy Naessens Netherlands.
Soon, construction will commence to convert the current temporary distribution centre in Lelystad to a full-size, state-of-the-art distribution centre. The project will be certified according to the international sustainability standard LEED, with JYSK aiming for the highest level.
“I’m very pleased that we have now found the right partner in Willy Naessens Netherlands to construct our new distribution centre in the Netherlands. The new facility will reduce the driving distance to our many JYSK stores in the Netherlands, of course, but also in Belgium, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Containers will mainly be brought in via the barge terminal Flevokust to further reduce transport on land. This will literally bring us closer to our customers,” says Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics at JYSK.
The site will be landscaped with plants and open water for rainwater collection. The office will have a roof garden and the lower parts of the building will have green roofs, and solar panels will generate part of the electricity used in the facility.
Experienced contractor
Over the past 60 years, the Willy Naessens Group has continued to innovate, undertake and grow, with a strong focus on sustainability.
“We are very proud to be the contractor for JYSK’s new distribution centre. With our special working method in which we manage all aspects of the construction process in-house, we will support JYSK in the total development,” says Jeroen de Bonth, General Director of Willy Naessens Netherlands.
The group consists of more than 50 companies, with a turnover of more than 1 billion euros and more than 2,500 employees. In 2023, Willy Naessens won the title as “Entreprise of the Year” in Belgium.
Ready for operation during 2026
Currently, around 60 employees work in the temporary distribution centre, and the new logistics facility will create more than 250 new jobs, once it is fully operational.
In addition to finding the developer, JYSK has made an agreement with the Romanian, family-owned company Pyronova, which will supply the fire detection and sprinkler systems
In February 2024, JYSK also signed contracts with two specialised companies, Körber and voestalpine, to deliver the automation and high bay warehouses for the distribution centre.
JYSK expects construction to begin later this year, and the new distribution centre is expected to be built and start operational during 2026.
