JYSK Makes Energy Savings And Adopts New Store Lighting Concept

JYSK staff discussion 2

JYSK takes responsibility and saves on energy in all locations throughout the organisation. This includes a decrease in electricity usage and control of temperature regulating appliances.

JYSK saves on electricity and temperature regulation across 3200+ stores, 10 distribution centres, and 40 offices in 48 countries where JYSK is present. That includes reducing light usage where possible, such as turning off some of the lights in the stores, switching off the large logo signs on distribution centres, and regulating the temperatures. At the same time, various smaller energy saving initiatives, such as store competitions on energy savings and automatic light switches, have additionally been implemented in various countries.

With the new initiative, JYSK expects to decrease energy consumption with at least 25% on store lighting compared to current levels with the new lighting concept.

“At JYSK, we are aware of our responsibility as a large international organisation. We have ensured that our efforts in saving energy are implemented across all our locations with clear guidelines for all employees. Also, we are continuously exploring ways to do even more to save on energy, which is good for the environment and to keep costs down,” says Jan Bøgh, President & CEO in JYSK.

A new lighting concept in stores

JYSK has prepared an updated spotlight concept for Store Concept 3.0 stores which will be implemented in all stores across all countries at the latest on Friday 25 November 2022.

The concept and execution have been tested in JYSK stores in Poland, Sweden, Denmark, and Czech Republic to ensure that customers continue to have a great shopping experience even though there is less light.

Inspired by a Swedish initiative and to support the work to reduce energy use, JYSK has also implemented yearly savings competitions in Denmark. In both countries, all stores compete against each other to save the most energy on a yearly basis compared to the previous year. Here, the focus is on turning of lights when leaving a room and keeping the temperature to a minimum.

“We have great success with competitions in JYSK as a way to keep spirits up in our business and inspire our employees. And although energy savings is a very serious issue at the moment, our Swedish colleagues have shown that we can accelerate our efforts in this way,” says Jan Bøgh.
