JYSK is moving forward with the process of building a brand-new distribution centre in Almenara, Spain. AR Racking will deliver a tailored storage system, while KÖRBER will secure the material and operational flow.

JYSK is expanding rapidly in Spain and Portugal and is soon opening in Morocco. Therefore, a 274,000-square-metre plot in Almenara, Spain, has been bought, where JYSK is planning to construct a new distribution centre.

The distribution centre will have 182,500 pallet locations and will be certified according to the LEED Gold standard, which among other things include solar panels on the roof to provide energy for the facility.

Now, JYSK has signed contracts with two companies to deliver the storage system as well as the general material handling system.

“Our new distribution centre in Spain will not only create local jobs and a fantastic workplace but also support JYSK in our future expansion in the region, where we see a big potential of opening new stores in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. This will only be possible with a strong logistics network,” says Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics at JYSK.

Two experienced partners

AR Racking is a leading provider of industrial storage solutions and will provide a tailored storage solution that maximises capacity and enhances the operational efficiency of the distribution centre.

For the general material handling system, KÖRBER has been chosen. KÖRBER’s system design gives a traceable, balanced and synchronised flow of trays and collies throughout the order fulfillment process. Furthermore, the KÖRBER Pick & Pack Center provides a flexible, fast, and ergonomic order picking process for employees.

The building will also include office space for the head office of JYSK Spain and Portugal. In total, JYSK expects that the distribution centre and head office will become the new workplace for approximately 250 employees.

In 2028, JYSK expects to have the new distribution centre in Almenara, Spain, ready for operation. Until then, JYSK’s rented distribution centre in Cheste, west of Valencia, will continue to deliver products to JYSK stores in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
