On Saturday, 22 March 2025, there was great excitement just outside Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, as JYSK Franchise opened its very first store in South America.

The JYSK store in Canelones, just north of Montevideo, has been in the making for several months and finally opened on Saturday, 22 March, with hundreds of excited customers waiting in line for the many great offers.

"Even though I have been part of many country openings, it feels just as special every time. We are very pleased with the warm welcome we have received in Uruguay. The big interest on the opening day proves that there is great enthusiasm for JYSK’s products and our Scandinavian approach to home furnishing. We could not have hoped for a better start in a new country – this is something both we and JYSK can be proud of," says Frederik Kroun, Franchise Director at JYSK.

With this opening, JYSK Franchise is now present in 21 countries, including Canada, Latvia, Vietnam, and many other countries. At the same time, Uruguay becomes country number 49 in JYSK’s global network of stores.

Next steps

The success of the opening day has already fuelled plans for further expansion in Uruguay.

"Our franchisee has big ambitions in Uruguay, and we have already started looking into opportunities to open another store, which we expect will launch in the end of 2025," says Frederik Kroun.

JYSK Franchise opened its first store in 1984, the same year JYSK entered Germany.
