John Lewis: Home sales up 1.7% this week

John Lewis has reported weekly sales figures for last week (to 2 July) published on Tuesday 5 July 2016.

"Sales totalled £90.8m for the week, +2.1% on the previous year. Summer Clearance continued to attract customers into John Lewis shops and the cooler weather also played its part, with last week competing with 35°C temperatures during the same week in 2015.

Fashion sales were +3.8%, with Babywear a standout performer at +21.9%, and Jewellery also had a strong week, with sales +15.6%. In terms of Menswear it was Formalwear that reported the biggest increase, with sales +14.7%.

Home sales finished the week at +1.7% compared to last year. Beds and Bedroom Furniture were the strongest performers across with category, reporting a +15.5% increase in sales.

The launch of the Dyson Supersonic™ Hair Dryer bolstered EHT sales, but a slower week for Small Electricals meant that the category finished the week at (0.1)%."
