Jewson and E.ON research shows 21% of Brits has had a bad DIY experience
With over a quarter of Brits (29%) planning on doing nothing this Easter bank holiday weekend or unsure what to do, E.ON and Jewson are urging people to pull out the DIY dust sheets and get cracking with some loft insulation. But will you Do It Yourself?
According to new research by E.ON and Jewson, almost half of women (43%) rate their DIY skills as above average, yet the majority of men still don't trust their partner with the simplest of home improvement tasks, such as painting (53%) or assembling new furniture (74%). Just14% of men would trust their partner to insulate a loft properly.
While women have a lot more faith in their partner's DIY skills, more than 20% of men wouldn't trust their partner with any home improvement. Perhaps less surprisingly, over a third of men (32%) admit to cheekily passing off a professional's handiwork as their own.
21% of Brits say that they have had a bad DIY experience. Reasons given for not doing DIY include; not being sure what to do (52%), considering DIY to be too difficult (33%), and many saying they simply can't be bothered (15%).
Mike Feely, Energy Fitness expert from E.ON, said: "For many, DIY can be daunting and it's clear from our research that some people not only doubt their own abilities but their partners' abilities too. Worse - some people even pass off the work of others as their own!
"But fitting loft insulation is a really simple bit of DIY and it really can make a difference to your home; not only does it keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in the summer months but it can also help lower your energy bills, too."
