Is Thompson & Morgan For Sale?
The financial website, This is Money, has reported that the owners of Thompson & Morgan, are working with advisers from KPMG on 'strategic options', which could lead to a sale of the business.
This follows an exceptionally strong 12 months of trading, as people stuck at home in lockdown focused on their gardens.
The site speculates that Thompson & Morgan might be valued at £150million to £200million as part of a deal though a takeover is far from certain given the high valuation.
T&M history
In March 2017 the BVG Group, the multichannel retailer which owns brands including Walton Garden Buildings and the clothes retailer Clifford James, acquired 100 per cent of the share capital of Branded Garden Products, the parent company of Thompson & Morgan.
In November 2020 T&M bought Suttons Seeds Ltd and its 3 brands: Suttons, Dobies and the Organic Catalogue. At that time Chris Wright, joint MD at T&M said, “The combined horticulture, ecommerce and multi-channel marketing skills of these renowned brands are forecast to generate over £80m in revenues in FY21 dwarfing the nearest online competitor.” See article.
