Online and in-store sales forecast to reach £1.46bn today (23rd Dec)

Sales expected to be up 6.6% versus the same day in 2023
Retail sales are set to reach £1.46bn today (23rd December) as the high street is hit by a last-minute festive shopping frenzy.
VoucherCodes.co.uk’s Shopping for Christmas: The build up to Christmas and Boxing Day report by VoucherCodes.co.uk forecasts a merry day of sales with in-store sales reaching £1.13bn, making it the second most lucrative day in the week leading up to Christmas. A further £0.33bn will be spent by consumers online.
With 16 million Brits expected to shop either online or in-store, it’s no surprise that sales are set to rise 6.6% compared to the same day last year.
Whilst 12.4m of these people will choose to shop on the high street or in shopping centres, another 3.6m will risk online shopping, squeezing in orders before the very final Christmas delivery cut-off dates today.
Michael Brandy, Senior Commercial Director at VoucherCodes.co.uk, comments: “Following the trend of the last week, sales are set to be pretty healthy today as consumers rush to stock up on their last-minute Christmas essentials.
“With just hours to go until the big day, consumers are short on time and money so offering convenience and genuine value will be the key to securing those last few festive sales. By offering these things as well as top-quality customer service, retailers can boost their margins and build loyalty that lasts into the new year.”
