Ingka Group Continues To Expand In China
Today [26th September] Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, opened a new IKEA store together with a Livat meeting place in the Changning District in Shanghai, continuing to grow its presence in China.
Ingka Group is advancing its omnichannel growth strategy. The new IKEA Shanghai Linkong store merges digital displays with on-site experiences, integrating the digital and physical channels to improve the customer journey.
Sara Del Fabbro, Deputy Retail Manager, Ingka Group comments: “China is one of the most important strategic markets for IKEA and we are committed to it. We have been present in China for the past 26 years and we see many opportunities to further grow here and contribute to the local economy and communities. It is with great excitement we celebrate yet another IKEA store opening in the region, complementing the physical and digital presence we have already to become even more accessible and convenient for the people of Shanghai”.
The IKEA store covers a total area of 21,620 square meters with more than 9,500 products on display, with 4,700 items available for same-day pickup. There is a 450 seat Swedish restaurant for customers to enjoy on site and a Swedish Food Market, where customers can buy food to bring back home. The IKEA store is spread across two floors within the new Livat Shanghai meeting place, the largest of its kind in China, operated by Ingka Centres, part of Ingka Group. The development also includes five new office towers by Livat, featuring one of the largest IKEA office spaces.
“Every Livat is more than just a place to shop – it’s a space where people come together, inspired by a sense of community and countless reasons to visit. Livat Shanghai is a key milestone as we celebrate 15 years in China, and we are excited to continue our journey, bringing fresh experiences to communities and visitors” says Cindy Andersen, Managing Director, Ingka Centres.
IKEA Shanghai Linkong complements the IKEA Shanghai Xuhui, Beicai, and Baoshan locations. It’s conveniently located in the surrounding area of nearly 800,000 residents and 140,000 office workers. With physical stores in combination with the strong online presence, IKEA now offers an even more seamless omnichannel shopping experience in Shanghai.
After the grand opening of the IKEA Shanghai Linkong Store and Livat Shanghai, Ingka operates 39 IKEA stores in various sizes and 10 Livat meeting places on the Chinese market.
