IKEA to open small-format Aberdeen store in May

Home furnishing company IKEA today announced that it will open the doors of its new IKEA Aberdeen Order and Collection point, located at Wellington Circle, from 12th May 2016.

The new format is considerably smaller than a traditional IKEA store and has been designed to bring the IKEA home furnishing range and expertise closer to customers who find themselves distant from a full-size IKEA store.

Acting primarily as a planning studio to plan complex purchases such as kitchens, wardrobes and sofas, IKEA Aberdeen Order and Collection Point will also feature the much-loved IKEA room sets providing inspiration and ideas for the home and expert co-workers offering home furnishing knowledge and advice.

Due to its size, the Order and Collection Point will not carry the full product range to take home but customers will be able to order from the IKEA online range for home delivery or for collection at the collection point. In addition a small range of the ‘markethall’ items will be available for customers to take home on the day of their visit.

A specialty café with free WiFi and small selection of take-home Swedish Food Market products, including frozen meatballs, will complete the offer.

IKEA Aberdeen Order and Collection Point Manager, Iain Crone, said: “We are delighted to be bringing this unique version of IKEA to Aberdeen this May. Today, customers in the region shop with us online but they have to travel considerable distances to our Edinburgh or Glasgow stores to see the range or get advice from our co-workers. The Order and Collection Point is a fantastic opportunity to connect all the ways you can shop with us in one place, right here in Aberdeen.“We have had a lot of positive feedback for bringing IKEA to the area and so we expect the first few weeks will be quite busy. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to the Order and Collection Point over the coming months.”

IKEA Order and Collection Development Manager, Jack Jackson said: “We are very excited to be opening Aberdeen Order and Collection Point. With the new format we will be able to bring the IKEA product range and experience to Aberdeen more quickly and conveniently than ever before.”

As part of its expansion plans to make IKEA more accessible to many more people, the company will be testing a number of similar Order and Collection Points across the UK. IKEA Aberdeen Order and Collection point is the first to be opened in Scotland and the second in the UK following IKEA Norwich Order and Collection Point, which opened in November 2015.
