  • Ingka Group expands in south India with new store as part of its global expansion boost

Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, opens the first IKEA store in the southern state of Karnataka. After launching IKEA e-commerce in the area last year, the omnichannel retailer now brings the physical shopping experience closer to its customers.

The new IKEA store in Bengaluru is part of Ingka Group’s recently announced EUR 3 billion investment to accelerate its expansion worldwide before the end of next year.

The newest IKEA store is located in Nagasandra in Bengaluru – the state capital of Karnataka and home to around 10 million people. Covering around 42,000 square metres and employing more than 1,000 co-workers, it will offer around 7,000 products that reflect local home furnishing needs. The store is connected to the Nagasandra metro station and will offer services such as remote planning, personal shopper, and click & collect at the store to provide a seamless shopping experience.

“India is a long-term commitment for us and today’s opening is an important step in getting closer to our customers in this part of the country. As online sales are growing fast, our stores remain one of our biggest strengths. Bringing the best of both physical and online retailing here in India and around the world is our way forward,” says Tolga Öncü, Retail Operations Manager, Ingka Group.

In India, the retailer plans to also open an IKEA city store in Bengaluru later this year, after opening its first city store in Mumbai in December last year. Earlier this year Ingka Group also officially opened a new Global Office in Bengaluru, which supports the global business and digital operations of IKEA Retail.

Ingka Group continues to accelerate its expansion globally, both with new stores and by investing in transforming existing stores to fulfil customer orders. On June 30 Ingka Group will open its first city store in Sweden, in the heart of Stockholm.
