IKEA In Talks Over Former London Topshop Store
The Mail on Sunday has reported that IKEA has been in talks with the owner of the former Topshop store in London's Oxford Street, which closed in January.
Sources told the Mail that the company has shown 'serious interest' in the site, which Savills states has eight floors (two basement floors, five floors at ground and above, and one mezzanine) and a total area of 137,500 sq ft.
IKEA is understood to have considered other properties in the area in the past, including the former Oxford Street BHS store. The company has a kitchen and bathroom Planning Studio on Tottenham Court Road but announced plans to close its Planning Studio in Bromley, South London in June 2020, having opened there in March 2019 as part of an approach to enable customers to experience IKEA's personalised kitchen and bedroom planning service without having to visit a large out-of-town store.
A new, unique small format IKEA store is due to open in Hammersmith, West London, later this year.
IKEA did not comment when approached by the publication.
