IKEA Granted Approval For Peterborough Click & Collect Depot
Peterborough City Council has granted permission for IKEA to adapt its Kingston distribution centre for the purpose of offering a click and collect facility.
The warehouse is around 86,000 sq m in size and is located on Kingston Park, off Fletton Parkway. It has been open for 15 years and was constructed at a cost of £32 million to serve stores across the UK as well as customers ordering for home delivery.
The plans indicate that the new Click and Collect hub will occupy an area of 490 sq m and forms part of a 54,315 sq m extension to the existing site, bringing the total space to 140,965 sq m across three storeys.
Thirty-two car parking spaces will be created for the new service, which will have a separate access point. Currently, the site has space for 426 cars and 374 HGV bays.
Peterborough City Council's planning department has said that IKEA must make it clear which spaces are to be used by customers.
IKEA said: "We have been in site for 15 years and need to expand.
“But the expansion must include changes to align with IKEA’s new business model, which has been adapted over time to suit the evolving retail climate.
“As part of the changing nature of retail and the evolution of online shopping, IKEA has developed a click and collection solution for customers to pick-up their orders from the distribution centre.”
“The development will result in the provision of additional jobs and further establish IKEA’s commitment to the Peterborough facility and wider area.”
