IKEA Expands To Downtown Oslo
Karl Johan is the main shopping street in Norway’s capital city Oslo. From today, it is also the home of IKEA Norway’s new city unit that combines planning services with a wide selection of home furnishing products.
IKEA on Karl Johan covers around 1,000 square meters of commercial space over two floors, offering planning services, the food concept ‘Swedish Bite’, and lots of home furnishing inspiration. It allows customers to plan their kitchen, bed and bathroom as well as storage solutions with the help of IKEA co-workers and order products from the entire range. In addition, about 600 different products will be available for immediate purchase.
“IKEA has been in Norway for 60 years, but never in the very heart of Oslo with the full IKEA customer experience. As we continue to transform our physical presence and adapt our stores, we will continue to get more accessible across our markets in a way that is most convenient for our customers”, says Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO), Ingka Group.
IKEA Norway has expanded steadily in the Oslo area over the last years with five new plan and order points in and around the city – complementing the two existing Oslo stores.
“This customer meeting point is a crucial part of our omnichannel expansion plan as we continue to get as close as possible to where people live, work, and shop. It’s exciting to welcome new IKEA co-workers and together bring the best of IKEA to the busiest street in Norway”, says Matthew David Johnson, Expansion & Establishment Manager IKEA Norway.
Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, has 574 physical locations in 31 markets. About one third of these are smaller locations such as city stores and plan and order points.
