IKEA confirms plans for Birmingham city centre store
Home furnishing company IKEA today revealed plans to open a new Order and Collection Point in Birmingham City Centre.
IKEA Birmingham Central Order and Collection Point will be located at Dale End in Birmingham City Centre and is expected to open in summer 2016. The Order and Collection Point is a new format for IKEA and it has been designed to bring the IKEA home furnishing range and expertise closer to more customers.
Acting primarily as a planning studio to plan and order more complex purchases such as kitchens, wardrobes and sofas, IKEA Birmingham Central Order and Collection Point will also feature the much-loved IKEA room sets providing inspiration and ideas for the home and expert co-workers offering home furnishing knowledge and advice.
IKEA Order and Collection Development Manager, Jack Jackson said: “We are really excited to be bringing this unique new format to Birmingham, our first Order and Collection Point based in a city Centre location. With less than 5 minutes from the 3 main rail stations and close to regional bus network hubs we want to make our products and services available to more people. By introducing an Order and Collection Point in this market we want to bridge the gap between online and in-store shopping and offer customers a new way to shop with IKEA.”
IKEA Birmingham Central Order and Collection Point will also be easy to get to by vehicle and provide convenient car parking facilities above the new unit. In addition to this there will also be specific collection bays available for customers who would like to explore the unit’s unique drive-in collection service.
IKEA Birmingham Central Order and Collection Point will not carry the full product range to take home but customers will be able to order from the full range for home delivery or for collection at the collection point. In addition a small range of the ‘markethall’ items will be available for customers to take home on the day of their visit.
Customers who visit IKEA Birmingham Central Order and Collection Point will also be able to enjoy the famous Swedish meatballs and other delicious street food from the bistro located in the unit. The bistro will also offer free Wi-Fi, hot and cold drinks, pastries and a selection of Swedish food market products for the customer to buy and enjoy at home.
Recruitment for a team of 30 multi-skilled co-workers has now begun. Mr Jackson adds: “As a values-based company, it’s not necessarily about the qualifications you bring but rather that you have the right attitude and share our passion for home furnishing and customer service.”
As part of its expansion plans to make IKEA more accessible to many more people, the company is testing a number of similar Order and Collection Points across the UK. The first Order and Collection Point opened in Norwich in November last year and the second one is scheduled to open in Aberdeen on May 12th this year.
