IKEA and Sonos Unveil New SYMFONISK range

IKEA Sonos 725 x 500.jpg

Combining IKEA’s home furnishing knowledge and design direction with Sonos profound sound skills, the two new multipurpose SYMFONISK products will help create the perfect mood around the home, making high-quality sound available for everyone.

Challenging traditional high-tech aesthetics, the SYMFONISK table lamp and book-shelf WiFi speakers incorporate high quality sound with great design, creating stylish furniture that blends into the home in a new way, making it easier to furnish with sound.

IKEA have democratised light in the home for years – with the connected smart lighting system TRÅDFRI as the latest addition. Now, setting out to also make high-quality sound available for everyone, the collaborative range aims to make a real difference in people’s lives through both sound and light.

About the products:

SYMFONISK table lamp with WiFi speaker
The SYMFONISK table lamp combines two hugely important elements for creating the right mood at home – sound and light - into one product. Partly inspired by the fireplace, one single product will now create warm light as well as sound.

SYMFONISK book-shelf with WiFi speaker
The SYMFONISK book-shelf speaker enables multi-functional usage in the home, whether that’s tucked away or on display, placed horizontally or vertically. The book-shelf can hold up to 3kg of weight on a bracket and can be attached to almost any kitchen rail with hooks. It is priced at £99.00

The book-shelf with WiFi speaker has been awarded a prestigious RED DOT Award for product design (with IKEA receiving seven in total) from one of the most respected international design competitions in the world. The speaker has been selected out of more than 5,500 products, being judged by an independent and international jury of experts.

Both SYMFONISK products are compatible with Sonos’ own product range and can be steered through the Sonos app.

Björn Block, Business Leader for IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden, says:

“Here at IKEA, we are constantly looking for ideas that improve life at home, by providing good, quality design and function at an affordable price. Creating a great atmosphere can help enhance the quality of life at home and what’s why this focus has been at the heart of the IKEA Smart concept and the SYMFONISK design. By integrating technology with home furnishing products and solutions we can do that in an even better way”.

Tad Toulis, Vice President of Design at Sonos, says:

“This partnership has always been about our two companies’ shared passion, values and knowledge. IKEA and Sonos recognise the importance of great sound and its potential to positively affect life at home for the many people. We set out to create products neither of us would or could develop independently. Given music and light are both instrumental in creating a sense of place, we have worked hard to develop a product that can deliver both”.

The new SYMFONISK range is being previewed at Milan Design Week’s Salone del Mobile at Torneria Tortona, Via Novi 5 from 9th – 14th April, where visitors will be able to try out the products first hand.
