IDS Ceases To Trade
Two-and-a-half-years after the completion of a management buy-out from Saint-Gobain, International Decorative Surfaces Ltd (IDS) closed its doors for the final time on the 13th November.
The Staffordshire business - one of Europe's largest distributors of decorative surface materials and a key player in the KBB sector for 25 years - employed nearly 400 staff across 12 sites in England and Scotland when it was placed into administration in September this year.
FRP Advisory was appointed as administrator and noted “the significant slowdown in the property and construction sectors” which saw IDS struggle for funding.
Alastair Massey, joint administrator and partner at FRP, said at the time of the administration: “While IDS has faced significant challenges in recent months, it remains a business with considerable strengths and capabilities,”
“We’re now focused on exploring all options to secure a future for the business, including marketing it for sale and we would encourage any parties interested in acquiring the business to make contact with us as soon as possible.”
IDS thanked its customers for their loyalty and support and confirmed it would honour all outstanding orders. A letter to retailers read: “As we bring this final chapter to a close, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for your loyalty and support over the years. Serving you has been our privilege, and we extend our sincerest gratitude to you, our suppliers, and our dedicated staff, both past and present. We wish you all the very best for the future.”
Showerwall, a subsidiary of IDS, was acquired by Bathroom Brands in late September following the administration announcement, and continues to trade.
