Howdens, the UK’s number one trade kitchen supplier, has won two awards at this year’s HR Excellence Awards. Howdens won both ‘The Best Reward and Recognition Strategy’ and ‘The Best CSR Strategy’ awards.

The award for Best Reward and Recognition Strategy acknowledges Howdens’ ‘Buy As You Earn’ plan—an initiative which allows employees to grow their Howdens shareholding. This award recognises Howdens for aligning this initiative with the company’s founding principle, ‘worthwhile for all concerned’, giving employees the opportunity to share in the business’ success.

The Best CSR Strategy award recognises Howdens’ apprenticeship levy transfer, which was established to tackle industry job shortages by increasing the opportunity for apprenticeships both through its own internal scheme, and also by helping other smaller businesses develop their apprenticeship training.

Emma Leech, Early Careers Manager, Howdens, said:

“We are honoured to have been recognised for our commitment to our employees, and our apprenticeship scheme. The company’s founding principle, ‘worthwhile for all concerned’, is really at the core of our strategy for employee and apprenticeship development, and we take great pride in our work to ensure the success of our people, as well as the success of the communities and regions where we operate. We are delighted to have been acknowledged alongside some other incredible companies.”

Howdens is committed to allocating 20% of its apprenticeship levy to fund construction apprenticeships in small businesses within the local communities that it operates. This investment has helped to create jobs and support small businesses in the construction industry, helping with the industry-wide skills shortage.

With over 750 local depots across the UK offering a full range of products including kitchens, flooring, joinery and hardware, Howdens carries one of the largest in-stock ranges in the UK. Products are readily available with no wait times so projects of any size can be completed without delay. To find out more about Howdens’ products visit www.howdens.com
