Homebase Walthamstow Closure Confirmed

In June of this year it was reported that developers had submitted a scoping report to Waltham Forest Council outlining plans for a major new housing development on and around the current Homebase site in Walthamstow.

Homebase staff have now confirmed that the store is to close, while local residents are campaigning against the development; arguing that the planned towers are too large, poorer residents of the properties will effectively be 'segregated', and the huge number of new residents will overwhelm local services.

The developer, Inland Homes, wants to build 583 properties in 18-storey blocks on the site of the Homebase store, on Fulbourne Road.  It says that it has reduced the number of planned houses and lowered the height of the buildings and is 'still working hard' to address other concerns raised.

The store has joined the 'Closure Stores' list on the Homebase website, alongside Irvine, London Wandsworth, Newtownabbey and Walton on Thames.
