Homebase proposes closure of Anglesea store
The future of a major retailer’s Anglesey store is in doubt.
Homebase, which has a store in Holyhead, says it has begun a “period of consultation” on its proposed closure.
Danny O’Neill, who started a petition against the closure of the store, said he has already collected 1,200 signatures.
Mr O’Neill, of Valley, expressed concern that the store could become home to a discount shop, which he said are already too common in the town.
He said: “It’s a valuable shop. There are enough pound shops and charity shops in Holyhead, and we don’t need any more.
“The town needs Homebase and other big companies which can work alongside existing retailers.”
Glyn Jones, who started an online petition against the closure, said: “There are no other shops of the quality of Homebase in Holyhead.”
A spokesman for the company said: “Homebase can confirm that the business has entered a period of consultation concerning the proposed closure of our Holyhead store.
“Colleagues at the store have been informed and we will be working with them over the next few weeks to support them as much as possible.“Due to commercial sensitivities, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
