Homebase Begins Closing Down Sale In Limerick
A clearance sale has begun at the Homebase store in Limerick, Republic of Ireland.
In April 2022, Homebase confirmed the planned closure of the store, advising that the doors would close for the last time on October 31st this year.
The Limerick Post confirmed the news, advising that the 28 employees had been offered the opportunity to work in other Homebase branches, but the nearest store is located in another county. Homebase is understood to be looking for another site in the area.
A staff member told the Limerick Post, “There are a lot of us here a long time. Four of us have been working here for 20 years, a few have been here for 17 years and a chunk of staff have been here 15 years.”
“We’ve all known it was coming for months, but pulling into the car park and seeing the closure notices go up make it seem very real,” she added.
A planning application was posted on the outside of the Parkway Retail Park store in September 2021, stating that an application had been made to change the use of the unit to allow the sale of sporting and leisure goods. At the time, Homebase said that it was in negotiation with the site owners over the lease renewal, but was aware that a third party had approached the landlord. Sports retailer Decathalon is due to take over the site in spring 2023.
Thank you for the excellent presentation that you gave at Woodbury Park on Thursday morning. It was very interesting and thought-provoking for our Retail members. The feedback has been excellent.
