Homebase appoints Chris McDonough as marketing director

Homebase sign angled

Chris McDonough has joined Homebase to lead its marketing efforts 10 months after exiting Asda where he was marketing director.

McDonough left Asda earlier this year amid a massive consolidation of the retailer’s senior management team. He had initially been hired with the intention of eventually succeeding chief customer officer Steve Smith when he returned from secondment to parent company Walmart. However chief merchandising officer for food, Barry Williams, was instead promoted to Smith’s position and McDonough subsequently resigned.

Prior to that he was UK managing director for brands with Molson Coors and UK marketing and R&D director for dairy giant Muller.

As marketing director at Homebase he will report to managing director Echo Lu, who said: “I am delighted that Chris is joining the team and look forward to welcoming him to the business. With his functional expertise, diverse experiences and collaborative style, he will be a great asset as we go through the next stage in our journey to be a more customer focused brand.”

He takes up the position on 1 December 2015.
